A mixed day for the team. We started against a strong German team and traded lots of swings, when the dust had cleared we lost by 22imps. We didn’t get the rub of the green, in particular an easy 4S deal which the Germans played in 3NT - however despite seemly having only 8 tricks, Tony Forrester  was remorselessly squeezed to give them 9.

Our second match of the day was against the very strong Italian team - Bakhshi/Malinowski and Allerton/Jagger performed well at both tables and we emerged with a confidence boosting small win (5imps). One of the biggest swings was Jeffrey reading the opponents’ cards beautifully to make 2S whilst the Italians at the other table overstretched to 4S and went three down.

Tomorrow we are back to a full schedule with matches against Greece, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
