Day 5 of the Senior Europeans was very good for the England team.
We began with an 11 imp loss to Norway who were in third place at that point..
In matches 2 and 3 we played Austria and won by 25 imps and in the final match of the day secured a 40 imp win against Iceland to end the day in 4th place.
The England pairs have played an equal number of boards each and have all played some fine Bridge.
The following hand presented interesting problems in bidding and play .

3nt played by north is better than 4spades but if you play the latter contract was is your line of play ?
If you know that East began with a 5 -5 hand in hearts and clubs how would this affect your line ?
Malcolm Pryor received a diamond lead and won the lead in hand to draw 3 rounds of trumps finessing against the Queen which was onside. He knew the diamond lead was a singleton and played accordingly .He cashed a 4th spade and also the other high diamond and then a 5th spade and East whose hand was the following

was then thrown in with the third round of hearts to lead away from the CA very nice play and card reading.
