The women's world championships is held every two years and teams from twenty-one nations will be competing over the forthcoming two weeks to lift the Venice Cup. This year, the event is being held in Lyon.
England gained qualification by winning the European Champions in 2016 and our campaign will begin tomorrow. As bronze medallists from Chennai in 2015, we start as one of the favourites.
The three highly talented partnerships that comprise our vastly experienced team are listed below in alphabetical order:
Sally Brock and Fiona Brown
Catherine Draper and Nicola Smith
Sandra Penfold and Nevena Senior
David Burn, in his role as coach, will be providing much invaluable information, especially with respect to the opponents' idiosyncrasies, which are not necessarily limited to their systemic understandings ;-) I am present as both the non-playing captain and "team blogger".
We kick off with a bang when, in our first match, we take on France, the host nation and reigning champions from Chennai in 2015.
Meanwhile, as we try to work out our daily commuting arrangements, David and I will be hoping to avoid any altercations with the local gendarmes - we are not always successful in this respect!
Here's hoping for a great start to what we hope will be yet another successful championships.
Derek :-)
