Pau - England fight back

Day 2 of the Championship was a much better day for our open team, as they fought their way right back into contention. It didn't start well, as in match 4 they played Latvia and were beaten 14 - 16. However the rest of the day was much better. In round 5 they faced one of the fancied teams, Israel and got a very good 20 - 10 win over them, then in round 6 they took on Finland. Finland are not normally rated as one of the top teams, however they had started extremely well and were lying in second place when England played them. England won the match 17 - 13, and the end of day 2 they have moved up to 11th position and have 86vps. Italy still lead group A with 115, followed by Finland 112, Netherlands 111, and Czech Rep 108. England need to finish in the top 9 out of the 19 teams in their group to qualify for the second stage. Germany head Group B with 123, followed by Sweden 117, Russia 115 and Poland 108.
