After seven hard days of bridge, with highs and a few lows thrown in, our team smoothly progressed to the Quarter Finals of the most celebrated bridge event in the world. We finished in 4th position of the round robin, and in the QF which starts tomorrow we will play the USA I team, who we beat in the round robin to give ourselves a carry forward of +11 imps to kick things off. The match will last 96 boards, and doubtless there will be many ups and downs for both sides, but tune in tomorrow to watch will be certain to be an exciting and hard fought contest. The winners of our tie will face Poland or France in the Semi Finals (unless both USA teams get through, which of course we hope to ensure does not happen!). Keep cheering for us - we can here it here in Chennai! With both the Ladies and Seniors team progressing also, there is a feel good factor to team England here and we hope to take advantage!
If I read it correctly, in qualifying the team beat 6 of the 7 other quarter-finalists, a fantastic achievement.
ReplyDeleteWell done to England on reaching the semi-final stages, beating the strong USA 1 team. I notice the 'twins' have played many fewer sessions than the other 2 pairs.- is that a form thing or have they succumbed to 'Delhi belly'?
ReplyDeleteSteve - if you had been watching the matches on BBO you would know it is a form thing. Gold - Bashki have been outstanding as the other East - West pair and Robson - Forrester on top form as well
ReplyDeleteI have watched all the BBO vugraph matches featuring the England Open Team. It's hard to assess a pair's form when they're on the sidelines. However the Butlers would seem to confirm Toby's point. The main thing is we're through.
ReplyDeleteYes Steve great news. And just to confirm the Butler scoring The two David's < I apologise for misspelling David Golds partners name above) lie 3rd across all pairs, Robson/ Forrester 9th and the twins 50 something. But I do believe the twins are growing into the event and their performance seems to be improving with the more experience they get in the competition. I think also a mention for the Ladies, again outstanding to beat the team who finished top in the Round Robin.
